Here on Memoirs in Overalls, Fridays will be for vulnerability and transparency! I will be posting personal essays, stories, and other random things. What’s better than an online diary for writing accountability?! Although I may seem 100% okay with spilling my guts to the world wide web, I’m not. It’s terrifying. It takes an insane amount of courage to do so and every time I go to post it, I’ll try to get myself not to do it. So, be gentle with me and my work when commenting on it. But don’t hold back if I fuck up on my grammar!
(Just in case you need this) According to Google: “The personal essay is also one of the most popular forms of creative nonfiction. A personal essay can be based on a personal experience that results in a lesson that you learn. A personal essay can also be a personal opinion about a topic or issue that is important to you.”
So, why personal essays? Remember how I said this blog is my accountability buddy? I’m practicing for my memoir! In the future, I may share pieces from my actual memoir, but for now, I’ll be sharing bits and pieces of my life in the form of personal essays.
Eventually, I’d love to open up this space to others. Storytelling is a key component to the memoir, so I’d really love to give others an opportunity to share their story. I really wanted to start with this, but I feel as though it will be something that needs to be organically brought on. When this blog is ready for it, I’ll announce when I’ll be taking submissions. Stay tuned. 🙂
