WRITING ACTIVITY #3

Yep, you guessed it. Another fun writing & drinking date with Franco turned into a fun writing activity to share! This time, I invited him over for pizza and beer… in the middle of the day… on a Thursday… cause… writing.

Freshly moved into my new apartment, we didn’t have any board games to rely on, nor could we think of something ourselves, so we turned to the internet. First I googled “writing activities” and quickly realized that that will only bring you to writing activities for kids. Adding “for adults” to the search engine, we clicked on the first one that came up, “10 Best Creative Writing Exercises” written by Mary Jaksch.

Some of the activities weren’t fitting in the moment and some we didn’t find interest in, so we picked our favorites. Once we quickly fell into a food coma, devouring an entire pizza and a couple beers, we then, lost complete interest and called it a day.

Two of our favorites were #1 and #3.  Here’s an example of one of the pieces I wrote. *Please note, poetry is not my forte.

#1) 7X7X7
“Find the 7th book from your bookshelf. Open it up to page 7. Look at the 7th sentence on the page. Begin a poem that begins with that sentence and limit the length to 7 lines.”
A Clockwork Orange
I could feel the knives in the old Moloko starting to prick
All of the spinning from earlier, made me sick.
The men at the other table appeared to sing along
But, every time I looked at them, I was wrong.
The woman in the corner was crying,
That I know, because I too, was dying.
Tonight was the last time, so I walked out.
